My Experience With Fasting

Since about mid August, I have been taking in part in intermittent fasting and I honestly can say that it has helped me in so many ways! I have been refraining from eating traditional meals and instead, drinking organic, decaf green tea with acai or water. I am not doing this for religious reasons whatsoever I’m actually doing this to help my body.

I took about a solid two week break from fasting between now and mid August but I decided to go back because I truly enjoyed the way I felt. Here are some of the things I have noticed while taking part in this intermittent fast:

Clarity – I enjoy meditating every single day and I have seen an improvement in my decision making, a clear head and overall clarity. I feel more connected to my body and to Source especially while meditating. And while I’m in this phase of my life, clarity is something I’m so happy to have more of.

More Energy – Along with feeling more connected to myself, I feel that I have more energy during the day.

Diet Change – Although I haven’t been eating a whole lot, I am wanting to transition to eating more fruits, vegetables and rice/quinoa instead of meat, bread and pasta. I feel my body cleansing itself and removing any cravings that I had before such as sugary foods/drinks and coffee. It’s easier to choose that green tea in the morning instead of a sugary, creamer infused coffee. I was one of those people you would ask, “would you like some coffee with your cream and sugar?” So, I’m not complaining about cutting that!

Weight Loss – Obviously since I’m not eating as much, I have been losing a little weight but it has not been unhealthy at all. Plus, drinking green tea with acai is a drink that naturally helps to regulate hunger and lose weight so that’s been great too.

These have been some things I have experienced personally and there are many actual health benefits to intermittent fasting which include:

  • Gets rid of sugar cravings by activating your fat-burning mode
  • Builds muscle and promotes overall health and wellness
  • Enhances brain health and helps prevent neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s
  • Reduces stress and fights aging, diseases like cancer and stress
  • Delivers an array of physiologic benefits, including lowering triglycerides, reducing inflammation and lessening free-radical damage

I’m very satisfied with this experience so far and I will continue to practice it. Refraining from food and water suddenly can effect your body so please do your research before you begin. I am all for it but I am also all for knowing what you’re getting yourself into!
