Tyler and I have been working so much lately. We finally decided that we’d like to make weekend trips more of a thing. Also, since we’re planning on moving out west in a couple of years, we figured that exploring more of the east coast is a great idea.

Our weekend home ended up being a cute little tiny house nestled in the woods in the Bleu Canoe Campground. It was cozy, clean, and carried organic soaps/shampoo! We even woke up to coffee and light breakfast items.

We knew that it was going to be cold up there…but we didn’t realize that it would be a literal snow storm. There was a winter storm warning for the area! Luckily, we were able to get out and get some hiking in before the snow began to fall.

Our First Stop…

Tallulah Gorge! I had read online where there were you had to descend SO many stairs to get to the bottom…but I misjudged my ability to do this easily.

I actually had a very intense workout with my trainer a couple days prior so my legs were still SORE. This…was not easy but we did it!

And although we had to stop plenty of times on the way up, it was still a great experience and another thing to cross off our list! We weren’t the only people to have to stop, though. In fact, EVERYONE had to stop at least a couple of times! So if you go to Tallulah Gorge State Park, don’t feel bad to slow down and breathe!

This next trail was one of the many in the surrounding area. We headed back towards Clarkesville so we were at least close enough to where we were staying. Driving in the mountains often adds quite a bit of time to your drive. While exploring, the cold began to creep in and we knew we needed to get home, fast! I’m glad we ended up turning around when we did, because it started raining very soon after.

On our way back, we stopped to get some groceries and some Starbucks. We wanted to get prepared for the coming storm in the event we lost power and had to stay in the next day!

Our Airbnb host was very generous and offered us to stay an extra night if the roads were too icy the next morning. We were very grateful.

It began SNOWING SO HARD!! We wanted to go out for dinner but quickly decided against it. Tyler got to drive in his first hard core snow storm and he did very well. It was night time so we decided to grab some dinner at a gas station right down the road. Pizza rolls for the win!

Once back at the tiny house, we proceeded to walk around in the falling snow while drinking our own bottles of wine. I have to say, it was an incredibly romantic experience. Tyler played some music on his phone and we just drank and laughed in the midst of snowflakes.

The crazy thing is…we lost power. The snow was wet and heavy which caused a transformer to blow. Tyler was actually standing outside on the front steps and watched the sky light up! Luckily, our host stopped by earlier that day to give us an extra blanket in case this happened. We snuggled up and listened to the heavy snow sliding off of the trees and onto our roof.

We awoke to the power coming back on in the middle of the night and let me tell you how RELIEVED I was! My anxiety was biting at me like, “it’s going to get so cold tonight and now we don’t have heat!”

This was such a fun and crazy experience for us. Trips like these allow for good stories and laughs later on. I am grateful that we were able to wake up in a warm place and make it safely off of the mountain.

After we made it off of the mountain and drove south for a while, we stopped for breakfast at a Huddle House (my first time ever going). Eating a super delicious and filling breakfast was a perfect way to begin our trip home! After breakfast, I did look up a little trail to give us one final adventure. We had such a fun weekend together. We definitely made a vow to make trips like this more often!
